A Message From Membership

Dear Congregant:

As summer quickly turns into fall and another school year begins, I am writing to let you know that our membership committee has been very busy over the summer. We have had great response to our new member program which allows families to join our synagogue and for the first year and have their dues waived. Since the summer began, we have had twelve new families join with several others very likely! That's amazing! Since we have had such great momentum in this area, I want to do all we can to welcome our new members and their families and involve them in our upcoming activities.

The membership committee is setting up a new Family Mentor program. After a new family joins, the Membership Committee is notified about the new family and their specifics. We will then match this family based on age, number of children & geographic area with another family similar to theirs. The mentor family will contact the new family, welcome them to the synagogue, and make arrangements to meet.

Some suggestions:

  1. Invite the new family to Shabbat Dinner.
  2. Make sure the new family has someplace to go for holidays (especially if they have no other contacts in the area).
  3. The next time you go to services, invite the new family to meet you. Sit with them and then introduce them around at the Oneg.
  4. If you don't entertain, meet them out...coffee, dinner, a playdate with the kids, lunch after religious school, etc...

The options are as endless as your creativity.

Obviously, this program will only be successful with your involvement. We all love to recount stories of hospitality and welcome when we first joined, remember? Wouldn't it be great to be part of a new families' story?

With the High Holydays quickly approaching, I would like to get new families assigned to their mentor families by Rosh Hashanah - a great time to meet the congregation, and you can help the new members to do that.

Please contact Suzanne Kantor to sign up as a mentor family. Be prepared to let her know the names & ages of the people in your family, where you live, and any other info you would like to add.

We are hoping that this will continue our tradition of warmth and welcoming to all who join TBE!

L'shana Tovah,
Brenda Friedman
